In order to navigate the ship to the
pre-planned survey locations we use Cefas’ Tower Navigation system.
This displays the survey locations surrounded by a target on a
computer screen and the skipper uses dynamic positioning thrusters to
move the ship into the target. The Tower system is also used to record GPS
fixes for the precise locations of all grab samples and camera tows.
